The Big Wave Japanese Print
The Big Wave Japanese Print is based on the original Japanese woodblock print by the master Hokusai. Katsushika Hokusai (1760 - 1849) was a Japanese artist and printmaker of the Edo period who specialised in Ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese art and a collaborative system of printing where the artist, carver, printer and publisher engaged in division of labour. For this print Hokusai depicted the mountain in the left-hand corner accompanied by some greenery which balances out the roaring wave on the right!
Hokusai is best known as the author of the woodblock print series ‘Thirty-six view of Mount Fuji’ which included The Big Wave Japanese Print. Made using a matt 250gsm conservation digital paper, a very versatile high quality paper made from acid and chlorine free wood pulp. A great value Japanese gift for all Japanese art lovers!
